The mission of the Sustany Sustainable Business Program is to promote sustainability by partnering with local businesses to identify and adopt best practices that encourage economic, environmental, and community accountability. The program includes designation from the City of Tampa as a certified Green Business.
In January of 2015, we will be launching the third round of the Sustany Sustainable Business Program. From January through April, a group of ten students from the University of Tampa and University of South Florida will work to develop a sustainability practice at The Straz Center for The Performing Arts.
To guide the sustainability assessment process, Sustany will match student sustainability specialists to their specific areas of interest within The Straz. This creates an experiential learning component for the students in addition to their current studies. Sustany’s Executive Committee facilitates workshop meetings and oversees the program and students to ensure the success of relationships, expectations and program outcomes.
Businesses that have successfully completed the program in the past have realized many of the following benefits:
Increased profitability through efficient resource-use
Gained access to potential new customers
Attracted and retained talent
Built goodwill and brand awareness through positive PR
Received technical assistance from sustainability specialists
